About St Peter's Church, Church Langton, Leicestershire

St Peter's church is set in the village of Church Langton, in south Leicestershire, near to the town of Market Harborough. Worship is Church of England (Anglican). St Peter's is one of the churches forming the Benefice of the Langtons and Shangton in the Diocese of Leicester. St Peter's serves three villages, Church Langton, West Langton and East Langton and has friends and visitors from all over. We love to meet new people and visitors. Everyone is welcome! Services for Advent and Christmas

This weekend sees the first Sunday of Advent when Christians anticipate and remember the birth of Jesus.

Advent is a time of quiet contemplation and prayer for four weeks before the festival of Christmas itself. It has its own hymns and carols such as O Come Emanuel, which reflect this beautiful time.

Christmas, at the end of December is the most joyous season as we all know and love, with feast and song as the news of Jesus’s birth brings hope and light!

This December, we are delighted to offer worship and activities to reflect both Advent and Christmas in all our villages in the Langtons and Welham Benefices.

We have produced a Christmas card with all the details. The card will be delivered to the parishioners of St Peter’s Church this weekend, but for friends further afield, there is a PDF to download below, with all the services listed, along with a Christmas message from our Lay Incumbent, Maxine Johnson.

We hope you can join us for some of the services but also wish our friends and followers here who live further away, a very peaceful Advent season and a joyful Christmas when it comes. Thank you 🙏

Happy retirement wishes

Last week saw the retirement of John, our long serving postman to our villages here in the Langtons, Stonton Wyville and Glooston.

John took up his round 34 years ago. A staggering number which we’re all quite amazed by. It feels like five minutes! The time truly flies!

Over the years, John has become a friend to us all, always ready with a smile and wave.

All the villages paid tribute one way or another and his last round on Friday took much longer than usual as he was greeted along the way.

Gifts and cards were given and I reckon his van was riding a little heavier on the way back than when it came out!

Local artist, Maxine Dodd, was asked by Church Langton residents Sue Atton and Maxine Johnson to create a leaving card for John. A task that she was delighted to undertake for this valued friend of the community.

Maxine created a map of his route with a card from the people. The envelope bears a special stamp featuring the King himself toasting his dedicated postie!

The card was printed and signed and the original framed as a special gift for John to remind him of us.

We are a small community and the post is a vital service. How fortunate we were to have such kind and dedicated man to bring our post to us.

Remembrance Sunday: An update from Sunday

We were delighted to welcome over 50 people to the service of Remembrance at the weekend. The church was decorated beautifully by our team of flower arrangers and we were thrilled to display a Poppy Collage made by the children from Church Langton School. Rev Martin gave a moving address including mention of the crucifix of nails made after the bombing of Coventry in World War II. Wreaths for the local men who lost their lives in World War I and II were blessed and then taken to the War Memorial on the village green.

We wish to thank everyone who donated on the day and online to our collection for the Royal British Legion. We raised £209.00 which is winging its way to the Harborough branch as we write this. This is our best year yet so we can’t thank you enough for your generous support for this wonderful cause.
